I hope your summer is going beautifully! Not a lot of news to report this month, but we were happy to hear from Phyllis Wenzel of Image Resolutions. The company has assumed the management of the Nautilus Printing accounts. This move will allow the clients of Nautilus a continued source for their one and two color printing projects, and expands their access to short-run 4-color and large format printing through one vendor. Phyllis sends a huge thank-you to Maia von Becker of Nautilus for her confidence in them. We all wish the best of luck to Maia and her family on their move to sunny Florida!

Please send news of your successes to gretje@gfergphoto.com . We'd all love to hear from you!

Linda MerrillAnnual "Celebration" event shows that women’s networking is "Just good business" and more!

On Tuesday, June 28th, we held our annual "Celebration" event at the South Shore Country Club. And boy, did we celebrate!

Celebration is the time for the old Board and Board President to retire and to welcome the incoming board and President. Barbara Case, of RBC Dain Rauscher, stepped down as board president after a year of unprecedented growth in new membership. Tears were shed as we said goodbye and thanks to Barbara and her board for a year of hard work and deeper relationship building. The network would be nothing without the hard work of all the teams and their chairpersons – volunteers all. We also welcomed our new President, Jayne Pelosi of Renaissance Interior Design. While Jayne has some big shoes to fill, there is no doubt she is a worthy successor to Barbara and will continue with the growth and development of the network.

One of the highlights of Celebration is the introduction of the recipients of our annual Marion Overhiser Scholarships, given by our Eductional Foundation. Joanne Mckoy Lawrence of Dorchester was named recipient of a $1,500 scholarship. Joanne is a single mother of four who is working hard to provide for her children today and preparing herself and her family for a better tomorrow. She will be entering the Fall 2005 class for special education at Lesley University and is already looking beyond that towards an advanced degree in order to become a principal in an urban school system. The Educational Foundation awarded a second scholarship of $500 Ms. Mary Fichtner, one of two recipients of the 2004 scholarships. The awards committee was so impressed with her ongoing commitment to her education that they decided to continue their support of her endeavors. Both ladies spoke eloquently not only about what these scholarships mean to them but also about what the support of the women’s business community means to them.

Other special recognition awards were also announced. The Rising Star Award went to Judy Siddell of Family Choice Mortgage and Wayne Cerra of Total Exposure Home Inspection. The Presidents Award went to Carl Menconi of Integrated Massage Therapies. These awards recognize extraordinary contributions by members in support of the missions and goals of the South Shore Women’s Business Network.

We also had the premier of the brand new SSWBN video – produced by Tom and Reiko Beach of TRB Designs. Attendees were given the CD-Rom business card which holds this video and can be played on a PC. Many SSWBN members took part in the video – discussing how they’ve benefited from membership in the network.

Suzanne Lockwood of Suzie Cue Productions spun the tunes and provided the perfect musical backdrop to add to the upbeat evening which ended with the opportunity for attendees to publicly thank those who have made a difference in their professional and personal lives.

The organizers for Celebration were Barbara Case of RBC Dain Rauscher, Jayne Pelosi of Renaissance Interior Design and Kimberly Locke of Constitution Advertising who was our Immediate Past President.
