South Shore Women's Business Network

New Member Checklist

The Networking Team of the SSWBN would like to help you maximize the value of your membership.

Please review our checklist of ideas and activities that you should consider as you get involved in the SSWBN.

Develop a one sentence tag line that summarizes your business. You will use this when you introduce yourself at network events.

Develop your 30 second elevator pitch that describes your business in just a little more detail and leaves them wanting to learn more.

Practice, practice, practice your name, business name, tag line and "elevator pitch" over and over so it flows naturally for you.

Keep a supply of business cards and brochures in your car at all times so you are never without.

Have a tote bag packed and ready with display and/or handout items for the member-only display tables at all breakfast and lunch meetings.

Check the SSWBN website (sswbn.org) Member Directory page to ensure all your information is accurate.

Contact a member of the network staff, board of directors or any team member to introduce yourself and brainstorm about potential leads.

Monthly visit the SSWBN on-line calendar (sswbn.org/calendar.htm) to see what events are coming up.

Be sure to read the monthly SSWBN e-newsletter to stay caught up with the latest member news in columns such as Movin' On Up and Connections , and event announcements.

Submit success stories about your business to the Movin' On Up column in the e-newsletter.

Submit your thank you's and acknowledgements to the Connections column in the e-newsletter.

Schedule your Three-Minute breakfast presentation by contacting the network office. You get three-minutes to tell the audience about your business and put information at each table. You are eligible to do this annually.

How about doing a mailing to the entire membership to let us know about your great products or services? You can contact the network office to purchase either mailing labels or a disk of the membership list.

Keep the attendee list from a networking event and follow up via email, telephone or snail mail to introduce yourself to those people you did not get a chance to meet.

Consider sponsoring a breakfast or lunch. You will receive five minutes to let all the attendees know about your services or any special announcements and put information on the tables.

At every network event, make sure you drop your business card into the drawing for door prizes and member spotlights.

Consider donating a door prize as another way of introducing your business.

Join a team! Teams meet monthly and are a great way to network with other members.

Also, only team members and be nominated to be on the Board of Directors for the membership.
